제 7 품 아라한품(阿羅漢品)

여행은 끝났고, 두려움이 없으며, 모든 면에서 자유
롭고, 모든 속박을 부수어 버린 - 이러한 아라한에
게는 더 이상 괴로움이 없습니다.
路行盡無憂，於一切解脫，斷一切繫縛，無有苦惱者。
旅程已盡，解脫了苦及一切，已消滅了一切束縛的人，不再苦惱。
Pain does not exist for one, who has finished the journey, is
without sorrow, who is emancipated in every respect and
who has abandoned all bonds.
Journey over, sorrowless, freed in every way, and with all
bonds broken - for such a man there is no more distress.

사려 깊고, 용기 있는 아라한들은, 재가생활의 즐거
움을 포기하고, 고정된 거처에서 즐거움을 취하지
않습니다. 마치 머물렀던 호수를 버리고 날아가는
백조처럼, 그들은 쉰 곳을 잇따라 버리고 떠납니다.
正念奮勇者，彼不樂在家。如鵝離池去，彼等棄水家。
有正念的人勤於修行，不樂於家（即欲樂的生活）；如同天鵝捨棄
泥沼，他們捨棄一切住家生活（即一切貪欲）。
Mindful ones depart; they do not find delight in houses. They
abandon every abode, just like swans leave a pond.
The recollected go forth to lives of renunciation. They take
no pleasure in a fixed abode. Like wild swans abandoning a
pool, they leave one resting place after another.

자신을 위하여 취득하는 바가 없고, 음식의 본질을
완전히 알고 있으며, 아라한의 목표는 텅 비어 있고,
형상 없는 해탈입니다. - 이러한 아라한의 종적은
알 수가 없습니다. 마치 하늘을 날아가는 새의 종적
을 알 수 없듯이.
彼等無積聚，於食如實知，空無相解脫──是彼所行境，如鳥遊虛
空，蹤跡不可得。
他們不儲藏， 飲食時適當地省察。他們的目標是空與無相的解脫。
他們的去處無法追尋，如同鳥在天空中所經之路（無跡）。（註：
不儲藏是指不再造業或不儲藏四資具。省察是指以三遍知省察。空
、無相與解脫皆是指涅槃。）
Those, who do not accumulate and have well understood
food, whose sphere is the void emancipation without
attributes - their course is difficult to find out - like the
course of the birds in the sky.
Those for whom there is no more acquisition, who are fully
aware of the nature of food, whose dwelling place is an
empty and imageless release - the way of such people is
hard to follow, like the path of birds through the sky.

아라한은 생각의 유입이 고갈되었으며, 음식에 대한
애착이 없고, 그의 목표는 텅 비어 있고, 형상 없는
해탈입니다. - 이러한 아라한의 종적은 알 수가 없
습니다. 마치 하늘을 날아가는 새의 종적을 알 수
없듯이.
彼等諸漏盡，亦不貪飲食，空無相解脫──是彼所行境，如鳥遊虛
空，蹤跡不可得。
他已解脫煩惱，不執著於飲食。他的目標是空與無相的解脫。他的
行道無法追尋，如同鳥在天空中所經之路。
Whose taints are completely removed, who is not attached
to food, whose sphere is the void emancipation without
attributes - his course is difficult to find out - like the path
of the birds in the sky.
He whose inflowing thoughts are dried up, who is unattached
to food, whose dwelling place is an empty and imageless
release - the way of such a person is hard to follow, like the
path of birds through the sky.

마치 조련사에 의해 잘 길들여진 말처럼, 그의 감각
이 적정(寂靜)에 이르렀고, 자만심을 제거하였으며,
생각의 유입이 없을 때 - 천신들조차도 이렇게 잘
정립된 아라한을 부러워합니다.
彼諸根寂靜，如御者調馬，離我慢無漏， 為天人所慕。
他諸根平靜，如同被馬車夫馴服的馬，他已脫離我慢及諸煩惱，這
平穩的人受到天神喜愛。（註：平穩的人是指不受世間的起落動搖
之人。）
Whose senses are quieted, just like horses well tamed by
the charioteer, even the gods do envy such one, who has
abandoned pride and is free from taints.
When a man's senses have come to peace, like a horses well
broken by the trainer, when he is rid of conceit and without
inflowing thoughts - even devas envy such a well set man.

아라한은 대지처럼 흔들리지 않고, 인드라의 기둥처
럼 견고하게 자리 잡고 있으며, 호수처럼 더러움이
없습니다. 이렇게 잘 정립된 아라한에게는 더 이상
다시 태어남이 없습니다.
* 인드라의 기둥 : 성문 인근에 세운 커다란 팔각형의 기둥
彼已無憤恨，猶如於大地，彼虔誠堅固，如因陀揭羅，如無污泥池，
是人無輪迴。
阿羅漢如大地般堅忍，不會受到刺激而生氣；他有如門柱般穩固，
不受生命中的
起落所動搖；他有如無淤泥的水池般安寧清淨。這樣的人是不會再
有輪迴的了。
Such a one, who is not obstructed, just like the earth, who is
similar to the Indra's stake, who is virtuous, who is like a
lake without mud - for such a one there is no more round of
rebirth.
Like the earth he is not disturbed, like a great pillar he is
firmly set and reliable, like a lake he is free from defilement.
There are no more rebirths for such a well set man.

완전히 깨달아서 해탈한 아라한의 마음은 평정(平
靜)하고, 그의 말과 행동도 평정(平靜)합니다.
彼人心寂靜，語與業寂靜，正智而解脫，如是得安穩。
完全解脫、寂靜與平穩者，他意平靜、語平靜、身亦平靜。
Peaceful is his mind; peaceful are his speech and deeds – of
such a one, who is freed by the right knowledge and tranquil.
Freed by full realisation and at peace, the mind of such a
man is at peace, and his speech and action peaceful.

아라한은 신앙이 필요하지 않고, 열반에 이르렀으며,
다시 태
어나는 속박을 잘라 제거하였고, 선과 악을 위한 어
떠한 기회[원인]도 다 파괴하였으며, 모든 탐애(貪
愛)를 제거해 버렸습니다. 그는 참으로 궁극적인 최
상의 사람입니다.
無信知無為， 斷繫因永謝，棄捨於貪欲， 真實無上士。
他不盲信，已證悟無為（ 涅槃），斷除了生死輪迴的束縛，不再造
善惡業，捨棄了一切渴愛，他的確是至上者（阿羅漢）。
A man who is not blindly trusting, who knows the Nirvana,
who has broken the connections, who has cut off the
opportunities and who has given up all wishes - he is a
greatest person indeed.
He has no need for faith who knows the uncreated, who has
cut off rebirth, who has destroyed any opportunity for good
or evil, and cast away all desire. He is indeed the ultimate
man.

마을이거나 숲이거나, 산골짜기이거나 산등성이이거
나, 아라한들이 사는 곳은 어느 곳이나 즐겁습니다.
於村落林間，平地或丘陵，何處有羅漢，彼地即可慶。
在村子或森林裡，在山谷中或山上，無論阿羅漢住在何處，其地都
令人感到愉悅。
In the village or in the forest, in the valley or on the hill -
wherever
Arahants live, that place is pleasant.
Whether in the village or the forest, whether on high ground
or low, wherever the enlightened live, that is a delightful
spot.

사람들이 즐거움을 찾지 못하는 숲이 아라한들에게
는 즐겁습니다. 탐애(貪愛)에서 자유로운 아라한들
은 숲에서 즐거움을 찾습니다. 왜냐하면 그들은 감
각적인 즐거움을 추구하지 않기 때문입니다.
林野甚可樂；世人所不樂；彼喜離欲樂，不求諸欲樂。
森林是令人感到愉悅之地，然而凡夫俗子卻不喜愛它；只有無欲之
人才會喜愛森林，因為他們不追求欲樂。
Delightful are the forests, where the crowd doesn't find
delight. Those free of passion will find delight there. They
are not seeking pleasures.
Delightful for them are the forests where men find no delight.
The desire-free find delight there, for they seek no sensual
joys.
